Social-Emotional Learning

in a Growth-Conducive Environment

One primary goal of Vessel Initiative is to create a safe space for students to learn and grow.

Active engagement and intrinsic motivation can be nurtured in a positive social environment. In accordance with the Self-Determination and Cognitive Evaluation theories, I seek to cultivate a rich environment that supports the development of social-emotional wellbeing in students.

As humans, we all have three innate psychological needs:

  • Autonomy:

A sense of choice and freedom from excessive external pressure. Vessel’s programming is challenging yet enjoyable, thus meeting students in their desire for engagement and fun.

  • Competence:

The feeling of effectiveness in one’s activity. Vessel chooses age-appropriate activities and teaches methods of competency growth to give students confidence outside of the program.

  • Relatedness:

The need to feel belonging and connectedness with others. My goal is to foster deep interpersonal relationships between peers and security in relationship with their instructor.
